Slap Bass - A Non Pick Playing Technique

You can apply the slap bass technique to bass scales and bass arpeggios over chord changes for all bass soloing if you desire. Slap bass is a form of bass fingerpicking because it uses the fingers to "pick" the bass strings, but its implementation is different.

For slap bass, instead of normally plucking or picking of the strings using your fingers, you actually slap the strings with the thumb. This can be done on any string. Then you can get a slap pop technique if you desire. The Pop comes from pulling the string with your index or middle finger or other fingers away from you creating a pop sound. Muting, Hammer-Ons and Pull-Offs are used with this technique.

You will probably find that it is a good idea to have some proficiency with the slap bass technique as well as with a pick and fingerpicking because it isn't that difficult to at least acquire a working skill with all of these even though you may prefer and perfect one technique over another. Or as many players do, you may use the slap bass technique as your main method of playing your bass.

However, more importantly than the actual technique of slap bass is the ability to apply it is a meaningful way by fully knowing bass music theory and your bass fretboard. That where our Bass Magic Evolution software comes into your reality for serious bass learning and playing.
