Electric Guitar Bar Chords

Learning guitar bar chords are easier on electric guitar than acoustic guitar because of the lighter strings. Bar chords can cover up to 6 strings and are strummed or fingerpicked in the closed position on the guitar fretboard. Whether guitar strumming or fingerpicking bar chords, they are not open chords, where you have open notes ringing in them. Bar chord shapes and easy open guitar chords, use the same guitar strumming patterns, but the fingerings are adjusted for the open chords.

These type of guitar music chords hurt your hands more when you are first learning them because they cover many strings in the closed position, often all 6 strings, but even when a string is muted, the hand position is still bar oriented. As each note needs to be clearly heard with all the other notes, the hand must be held firmly on the neck. The longer you hold and strum guitar bar chords, the more your hand hurts until you have trained your fretting hand over time to be comfortable with guitar bar chords.

Guitar bar chords can be major, minor, suspended 4, altered chords, major 7th, minor 7th, and many other guitar chord types as well. They are played on electric or acoustic guitars in all styles of music. Great rhythm guitar playing is essential to all popular guitar songs and guitar bar chords are an essential chord form of many of the greatest guitar songs made.

While lowered guitar tunings may be sometimes used when you tune your guitar, remember that does not have anything to do with guitar bar chords. These types of tunings will give a different sound, heavier sound. Also depending on the amplifier used there, the level of distortion, etc., they may appear to sound like something more than what they are. In regards to the chords themselves, the basic major or minor bar chord is configured with three chord tones.

You may or may not be surprised to know that many of the great guitar players know a lot more than just guitar bar chords. They know more about guitar music theory, advanced guitar chord structures, scales, arpeggios and more than you ever realized. Get the most out of your learning with a guitar method that takes you way beyond just learning guitar bar chords and is really a guitar course in real world playing skills and musical knowledge.
