Fretless Bass - What Do I Need To Learn Bass

Lessons on how to play the fretless bass are the same as lessons for learning a fretted bass. A fretless bass is a regular bass where the fretboard has no frets. This obviously makes it more difficult to learn the fretboard because you do not have the frets on the fretless bass as guide posts for your bass finger positions.

However, all the information you learn on bass music theory, jazz bass chords and licks, how to master the bass fretboard with box patterns, modern chord and scale shapes, diagonal scales and arpeggios, etc. will be the same for whatever method you are using to learn play the bass.

Most players have a fretted bass to start off learning with or to continue their advanced bass learning with simply for an easier way to visualize and master the bass fretboard positions. However, this is not necessary to do, it just will probably be more difficult or time consuming to simply just use a fretless bass for your bass fretboard education. That is simply a personal choice.
