EASY BASS CHORDS

Bass power chords are generally thought of open chords and power chords, which are played with simple root or root fifth picked bass lines over easy to learn bass songs or singers writing songs in blues, rock or country music. These types of chords are often thought of as easy chords, especially because either they have 2 notes in them such as for power chords or due to the fact that they are in the open position of the fretboard where a student can simply learn a couple basic patterns to play music on their bass.

Unfortunately we feel this is not really true for learning your bass. While the idea of playing around with the bass just for some easy enjoyment or just learning a few chords for musical ideas is perfectly fine and fun, this is only easy if that is the extent of your desire to learn and progress with the instrument. Advanced players often use these chords and in many ways. The easy way to understand chords, how to build them, learn them, and play them on the fretboard is actually more difficult when the approach is to learn them from an open position, presumably easy approach.

There are many types of chords and many ways that they can be played and used. As you just start to learn a few of them, it seems easy and elementary, but as you start learning more and more, and then begin to get into the various fingerings, alterations and types, then you begin to realize that there is much more to learning bass chords that you had ever imagined. Actually playing some of them on the fretboard for the first time and in one position is easier on the hand to begin with, but that is about the extent of easy chords as you proceed further into your playing.
