Alternate Guitar Tunings Reorder The Guitar Notes

Open E tuning is the standard tuning for the guitar which is what the guitar lessons you use to learn the guitar fretboard notes, are based upon. Alternate guitar tunings where you retune one or more of your open strings to Open G or Drop D for example, will change the order of the notes and therefore the names in two ways. First moving vertically on the guitar fretboard the notes will be in different positions. Secondly moving across the strings on the same fret position, the relationships from one note name to another will be completely different.

How do alternate guitar tunings relate to, or affect your ability to master the note names on the guitar fretboard. First off it probably won't if you use the standard Open E tuning as your basis of learning the note names to begin with, and you use the tuning as your default tuning that you play with. If you are going to experiment with other alternate guitar tunings, you probably won't be doing that as your fall back guitar fretboard tuning for on the fly soloing and improvisation.

It most likely will be for learning certain guitar songs or to write a special song with a special musical theme in mind so you won't have to be as adept as knowing the notes names as quickly as you would in your default tuning. Learn and mastery your guitar fretboard with all aspects of music with our serious guitar education software and experiment with alternate guitar tunings once you have a command of your guitar to begin with.
