Tuning Your Guitar - Sets Where You Learn The Notes On Guitar Fretboard

The open strings on your guitar are your starting point for tuning your guitar. This is the key to where the rest of all the notes on guitar fretboard are located. Your 6 string standard guitar tuning will be from lowest to highest string (E - A - D - G - B - E). All the notes are tuned in intervals of a 4th except going from the third to the second string which is tuned in an interval of a 3rd. This is what you call a guitar standard tuning or Open E tuning.

While there are other guitar tunings for tuning your guitar, such as Open G, Drop D and a myriad of other ways you can tune the instrument such all in 4ths where you would have (E - A - D - G - C - F), we don't recommend any of these other than the standard guitar tuning as your main guitar instruction method whether you are a beginner or intermediate to advanced player.

The method of tuning your guitar you use, will decide where you will learn your notes on guitar fretboard. Our program uses standard Open E tuning for the guitar. Even for guitars with more strings, the same concept applies, for example read 7 string guitar or 12 string guitar.
