There is a great method to learn the note names, natural, sharps and flats at the various fret positions up and down the bass fretboard and across the bass strings on the same fret. The beginner will learn the note names on the open position strings, E A D G. Then many bass players of all levels may use fretboard note maps to visualize the notes on each fret. However, most often the bassist never really gets the solid of grasp ascending and descending scale notes or chord notes because they did not have a good method of learning the note names.
